Sam Gerrans is English. He currently lives in Russia, and has held Russian citizenship since in 2001.

As of 2025, he has accepted that all roads back to the mainstream world are closed to him and works as a freelance (language) trainer and consultant. He is writing a commentary and series of glossaries to the works of key expositors of the sophia perennis1 beginning with those of René Guénon at hierarchia.com. He also publishes occasionally on Substack.
